Reno - July 2007 Hawken Fire

The Hawken Fire burned 2700 acres southwest of Reno in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Wilderness, part of the Carson Mountain Range.

It started out as a small brush fire in the Caughlin Ranch area accidently started by a construction crew grinding metal.

The wind spread the fire rapidly.

Scorched earth

Note the upside down plume of water from a helicopter in the middle of the photo.

Arrows on the photo locate two fixed wing aircraft fighting the fire.

It was very near thing for some home owners.

Fire fighting tanker flying out of the smoke

Helicopter in the midst of the smoke flying back for a refill of water

Giant plume of smoke rising into the sky

The view from my house - shows the massive scale of the fire
