Virginia City Virginia City sprang up in 1859 as the site of one of richest silver and gold discoveries in U.S. history called the Comstock Lode. It is located in the mountains southeast of Reno in Storey County. Outhouse Races Every year in October are the World Championship Outhouse Races. A good time is had by all. October 2009
